Overview

Structured according to the weightage of the different paper(s), this would be an ideal programme for students who are looking to get an edge in their English exam-preparation. The class will focus on all components of the English Paper, with greater emphasis on the following heavy-weights:

  • Composition (20%)

  • Comprehension (10%)

  • Stimulus-based Conversation (10%)

  • Comprehension Cloze (7.5%)

  • Situational Writing (7.5%)


The sequential nature of the classes will allow students to familiarise themselves with the flow of the English exam paper(s). This programme will also guide them to be ready for an exam setting, as well as to understand how a setter/examiner/marker might think as they answer the questions.

Lesson Cycle

Lesson 1 - Composition

  • Focus on learning one or more new writing skills, strategies or techniques.

  • Students will independently attempt a timed composition that will be completed in class (marked with rubric)

Lesson 2 - Booklet A

  • Explore a model composition based on the question in Lesson 1

  • Learn exam strategies to tackle Booklet A components and Apply them onto mini-tests and independent practices

Lesson 3 - Booklet B (Set 1)

  • Revisit the vocabulary learnt in Lesson 2

  • Learn exam strategies to tackle Comprehension Open-ended & Comprehension Cloze and apply them onto mini-tests and independent practices

Lesson 4 - Booklet B (Set 2)

  • Learn exam strategies to tackle Synthesis & Transformation, Editing and Grammar Cloze

Lesson 5 - SW & Oral

  • Learn to tackle a particular type of situational writing task and attempt an independent situational writing task

Lesson 6 - Mock Paper 1

  • Attempt a full Paper 1 during lesson

  • Learn quick-and-easy strategies to score for Listening Comprehension and attempt a few

Lesson 7 - Mock Paper 2

  • Attempt a full Paper 2 during lesson

Lesson 8 - Review Mock Papers

  • Students to go through the corrections for both Paper 1 & 2
